Our History: Who We Are

Page County Habitat for Humanity is an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the ecumenical Christian housing ministry founded by Millard & Linda Fuller in 1976. Habitat for Humanity is a global non-profit housing organization working in nearly 1400 communities across the United States and in 70 countries around the world.

Page County Habitat for Humanity formed in January 1993 seeking to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Since completing our first home on Bixler’s Ferry Rd. in Luray in the summer of 1995, Page County Habitat for Humanity has completed and sold 23 homes. We plan to break ground on a duplex in June 2025 to build our 24 th and 25 th homes.

We welcome people from all walks of life to join with us in serving families in need and creating a better community for everyone. We partner with home-buyers, volunteers, donors, businesses and community organizations to transform lives and rebuild communities.

Houses are sold at an affordable price with low to no-interest loans to qualified home buyers who earn 30% to 60% of the area median income. Page County Habitat for Humanity builds homes with people not for them. Home buyers are required to contribute up to 350 hours of sweat equity by working on their home and those of others in similar circumstances.

We work with prospective homeowners and volunteers to build adequate, not fancy housing.  Our typical house is 1100 square feet, including three bedrooms.

PCHFH has completed 20 houses since our beginning in 1993.  They are well built houses, and their owners take great pride in keeping them nice.

Our houses are sold to selected homeowners, essentially for the actual cost of the house.  Habitat holds a no-interest mortgage, with the payments determined by the family's ability to pay.

Join Us!!: Become a volunteer and/or Donate

We need your partnership to continue ministering to your neighbors in Page County. Since the homes are sold at cost, our only income is your generous support through financial contributions, donations of materials and investing your time and skills helping local families.

Your generous support is needed to pay for building lots, materials, professional labor, fees, etc.

Please consider joining Page County Habitat for Humanity as a board member, committee member, construction volunteer or any way you have been gifted.

You can also join us by referring families you know who need safe, decent housing and by organizing your community to participate in a special work day.
